If you send products overseas you’ll know that international shipping can be seriously expensive.
Fortunately, using custom boxes from custombox.uk can save you money on your international shipments.
Here’s how...
How to save serious money on international shipping
Volumetric weight
Most overseas courier shipments are priced according to volumetric weight.
Volumetric weight is calculated by multiplying the three dimensions of your package together:
Width X Length X Depth
The total is then divided by 4000 or 5000, depending on which courier company you are using.
For example, the volumetric weight of a 30cm x 20cm x 10cm box would be calculated as follows:
40 x 30 x 10 = 12000
12000 ÷ 4000 = 3
So the volumetric weight is 3kg.
When shipping, you’ll be charged for whichever is higher, the volumetric weight or the normal physical weight of the item.
Stop shipping air
Since custombox.uk allows you to order boxes in the correct size for your item you can reduce the volumetric weight, and save money on overseas shipments.
Here’s our example 40cm x 30cm x 10cm box with a volumetric weight of 3kg.
Sending this from the UK to the New York with a volumetric weight of 3kg would cost £39.15 with
Parcelforce’s Global Value service.
If you reduce the box size to 40cm x 15cm x 8cm, resulting in a volumetric weight of 1.2kg, the cost to send on the same service would be £27.25, a price decrease of £11.90.
That’s a saving of over 30%!
Think outside the box
It can be tempting to order cheap, one size fits all packing boxes. However, if you ship overseas this can be a costly false economy.
Spending a little more on the correct size boxes will more than pay for itself. In fact, it will save you serious money!
